Our Tours

All of our short riding tours are based in and around the Hörgárdalur valley area. From this valley our riding tours have gained their names based on the Icelandic folklore tale called ‘The Deacon of Dark River’ or Djákninn á Myrká in icelandic.

GARÚN TOUR

1 HOUR HORSE RIDE

This is our shortest tour and gives a great introduction to riding Icelandic horses. Take in the surrounding meadows and dramatic mountain ranges on the back of your pure-bred Icelandic horse. At the end of the tour you are invited to join us for coffee and light refreshments.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: All skill levels welcome from beginner to expert riders.

NOTE: In case of pick-up please arrange with us prior. Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour. Wear long pants and close-toed shoes, ideally with a little heel; safety gear / helmet supplied by Stable Stop.

DEACON TOUR

1 1/2 HOUR HORSE RIDE

To be free in the mountains on horseback is nothing short of breathtaking. Join us for the 1 1/2 hour adventure on horseback to the mountains. On this tour you have multiple opportunities to tölt your horse, a special gait known to Icelandic horses. At the end of the tour you are invited to join us for coffee and light refreshments.

MYRKÁ TOUR

½ DAY HORSE RIDE

Now here is a chance to advance from beginner to intermediate rider. The tour takes us through some of Northern Iceland’s most beautiful valleys, mountain ranges and meadows. Either the riding or the views will take your breath away. On this tour, you have multiple opportunities to tölt your horse, a special gait known to Icelandic horses. At the end of the tour you are invited to join us for coffee and light refreshments.

BAUGASEL THE TURF HOUSE TOUR

ssFULL DAY HORSEBACK RIDING ADVENTURE

Looking for a true Icelandic adventure? This full-day ride takes you through breathtaking mountains and valleys to Baugasel, a traditional Icelandic turf house. Along the way you´ll experience the beauty of untouched nature, enjoy delicious local refreshments, and build a special connection with your Icelandic September.

This tour offers plenty of opportunitioes to experience the famous tölt and, depending on the horse and rider, you may even have the chance to try all five gaits.
